Okonkwo Speaks on Ecumenism in Anambra State

Okonkwo Advocates Greater Unity Among Catholics, Anglicans

Founder of Pro-Value Humanity Foundation and Philanthropist, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo (Dikeora Idemili), has called for the greater unity of the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion in Anambra state saying that both groups have more to offer for the good of people of the state.

Speaking when he addressed members of the Anglican Communion at the 2019 Cash Harvest and Thanksgiving Service of Knights of St. Christopher which held at Knights Abbey in Onitsha, Sunday, Dr. Okonkwo said a more united Christian family will deliver greater good for Anambra state.

The service which was presided over by the Anglican Bishop on the Niger, Rt. Rev. Owen Nwokolo, had in attendance all Knights of St. Christopher led by Barr. Ben Uzuegbu, President, Council of Knights, in the Diocese on the Niger.

In his address, Okonkwo, who was at the thanksgiving service as a ‘Special harvester’, promised to be part of the actualization of the project allotted the Knights at the University on the Niger at Umunya.
According to him, there are no differences between political, social, and religious pursuits between Catholics and Anglicans as both groups seek the common good.

He said that irrespective of the religious affiliation of Anambra people, everyone seeks to have a better society which works for all.
He noted that the religious harmony enjoyed in the state was the outcome of the sacrifices of forebears of the state who built institutions that afforded every Anambra child opportunity for education in spite of religious leaning of their parents adding that such must be sustained for the good of the state and her people.
Okonkwo said that what ought to be paramount in the minds of Anambra people is how to ensure that the state works for all and delivers on the expectations of the people in all aspects of human endeavour.

He urged members of the Anglican Communion not to relent in their quest for credible leadership in the state adding that all hands must be on deck to change the current narrative about Anambra.

“The essence of the church is the progress and development of people and society. The essence of leadership is the progress and development of the people and society. So, whether you are a traditionalist, Anglican, Catholic or whatever, the essence is the progress and development of society and the people. If you deviate from that, then, you are not adding value. Therefore, we must stay and work together as one and say no to those things that bring division among us”, Okonkwo said.

Responding, Bishop Nwokolo thanked Dr. Okonkwo for his generosity towards the church and the project being executed by the Knight of St. Christopher.

Bishop Nwokolo prayed that God would crown all the efforts of Dr. Okonkwo efforts with success.

He also urged Dr. Okonkwo not to relent in the pursuit of the good for the people of Anambra state.
